Eat Fish, Get Happy

Connors State's newest organization, "Connors' Bass Club," could be filled with some of our happiest students. It is a team of fishermen, not a choir of low-voiced male singers.

According to an article by Willow Lawson in Psychology Today, based on research at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, "People who dine on fish are not only happier, but they tend to have more pleasant personalities than people who don't eat seafood... People who don't each much fish are more likely to report mild symtpoms of depression, feelings of impulsivity and a negative outlook on life."

Evidently you can get your omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids, which are the key brain ingredient, from a supplement pill instead of a large mouth bass but take my word for it, catching a supplement pill in a Walgreen's aisle isn't nearly as much fun as using a Hula-Popper lure to pull in a 3-pound bass.

Just the memories of fighting Micropterus salmoides (large mouth bass) bring a smile to my face. Little did I know that I was being made even happier from their omega-3 fat.

Feeling a little down? Eat some fish. Better yet, join the Bass Club, catch the fish, and then eat it. Get the elevated mood that comes from both worlds.

I had no idea that fish could make you feel better. This past friday I had a test in history and didn't do very well so I was depressed all day. The next day I ate fish for lunch and without knowing felt better about myself. Thank you Dr. Grady for the answer to happiness.

I as well did not know fish made you a happier person. I need more fish in my life. Not that I am not a happy person just that everyone needs a lift in the day.

If I could only eat fish with out getting sick would my life be a little better, guess I will have to stick to catching a pill in walgreens isle. Although I do like to go fishing every now and again. Its no wonder why fishermen are more happy people.

I did not know that eating fish made you happier. But I did know that fish is one of the healthiest meats you can eat. I'm not much of a seafood eater but when my dad cooks fish I sure do eat it!

Being one of the people who do not eat anything out of the water, I strongly disagree with the fact that eating them makes you happier. I will, however, admit that I get great enjoyment out of fishing, especially with my grandchildren. When they catch a fish, I am not sure who gets more excited...them, or me.

I did not know that fish would make someone happier! The problem is i don't care for fish, so i guess i will just have to stick with the way my life is right now!!!

I believe that fishing verses eating fish makes you happier. Just getting outside with all of its serenity and getting away from the stresses of everyday life is relaxing. Then if you are LUCKY enough to hook a fish then you can enjoy the best of both worlds. (Being from New Orleans and having seafood always in my life is I guess the reason I am such a happy person,LOL)

How can fish change a person personality? It might help them be in a better mood after eating it for a short period of time but not change it. I think fish is gross and stinks but hey if it helps I should try it to make me more pleasurable...LOL

Is that all I have to do to become a happier person? If I had known that is all that was wrong with me WOW!! It probably would of saved a lot of headaches for my mother! I don't eat seafood, It makes me really really sick! The smell the sight and touch eeewwww! Guess I am stuck in the Walmart isle. I will pass this information on though to all my fish and seafood eating buddies!

I didn't think eating fish would make you a more cheerful person. Maybe thats the reason why seafood restaurants cost a little more to eat at.

Hmm.. Learn something new everyday. Guess I'll eat more tuna sandwiches. That's the only kind of fish I can tolerate to eat! Maybe I'll opt for the omega-3 pill as well.

I guess i will never be happy since i am allergic to seafood. This sucks for me. Is there any good about eating chicken and rice?

I love fish and also take fish oil supplements. They are great for mood, focus, your heart, and for bone and ligament repair and lubrication. Many functions of the great omega-3.. To people that don't eat fish you can also get omega-3 enriched eggs and milk. FYI.
