A New Insult

Psychology class ought to be at least good for new ways to insult people.

I'm getting ready for tomorrow's lectures and just glanced at my Gen Psyc notes. We're going to talk about synaptic gaps.

How about this for an insult? "Dude, your synaptic gaps are too wide."

The synaptic gap is the space between one brain cell's axon and another neuron's dendrites. They don't actually touch, so the neuron's electrical message has to be converted to a chemical, called a neurotransmitter, to travel between the neurons.

The wider the gap, the more the message is slowed down.

Really wide synaptic gaps = a really "slow" person.

I know someone like that and I was going to use your joke too, but i figured i still wanted them to be my friend. so i didnt use it. (I don't think they would have got it anyways haha.)

I actually used this insult on a previous student of yours and she didnt get it. I decided not to explain further since she is my best friend.

I think this might explain my problem! (And my sister's and my mother's...) I have really wide synaptic gaps! I am slow and take longer to process some jokes and am often called "Blonde". (I know they're implying I'm slow because I'm red headed.) Now I can go home and tell my husband that there is a scientific reason that I take so long to "get it". Hahaha!

HaHa I remember the day before you gave the lecture you said on the next day of class we will find out if someone says you have a wide synaptic gap is an insult the person sitting behind me (i wont name names) was puzzled and I explained to her it was and insult and why she still looked puzzled and then i knew she MAY have a wide synaptic gap..

I think most people wouldn't even realize they were being made fun of if someone told them they had a wide synaptic gap. Now if they've read this blog than they would definately see what the person was saying about them. That would be a interesting insult to say to someone to just see how they would react to it

I remember you telling this joke in class. I myself have not used it because I don't find it funny. My aunt is slow and it really bugs her when people tell slow jokes. Since I am around her so much I guess I kind of find those jokes offensive as well. Of course I did not tell her about this joke and I know that you were just trying to make it fun for people in the class.

But an insult isn't any good if the people around you, or the person receiving the insult, do not understand. My brother back home has taken some psychology courses... maybe i can use it on him? haha

mine may be a little too wide! I don't tend to get jokes too quickly, plus i have blonde hair. thats why it gets a bad wrap!

Devel.
